Wristful Thinking / Privacy

Privacy, kept simple.

Your sleep is personal. Wristful Thinking keeps it that way: no advertising, no analytics trackers, no third-party SDKs, and no uploading your health data to our servers.

Sleep and health information

With your permission, Wristful Thinking reads sleep records from Apple Health and stores a local copy to show your history, stages, and trends. Optional health metrics include heart rate, resting heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen, respiratory rate, wrist temperature, environmental sound levels, breathing disturbances, and sleep apnea events. Available records vary by device, region, and permissions.

If you enable the experimental sleep detector, the app also reads heart rate and active energy, with optional step counts, to calculate estimates on your device. Imported records can include timestamps and information about their source app and device. The app does not write to or delete Apple Health records.

Your notes, tags, corrections, Lights Off markers, preferences, and calculated insights are stored locally. Wristful Thinking has no account or developer-operated cloud storage and does not automatically send health data to us.

No advertising or tracking

The app has no advertising, analytics trackers, or third-party SDKs. We do not sell your health information or use it for advertising.

Watch, widgets, and Apple services

The app shares a sleep summary and Lights Off markers between your iPhone and paired Apple Watch using Apple services. A local summary also supplies widgets and complications. Notes are not included in these summaries. Widget and complication sleep values are hidden by default; if you enable them, anyone who can see your screen may see those values.

If you use Siri or Shortcuts, you choose which actions receive a sleep summary. Optional notifications and alarms use Apple's system services. Connecting Home lets the app read available scenes, save your selection, and run a scene when you request it. These features do not send health records to our servers. Apple's services, including Apple Health and any iCloud synchronization you enable for it, are governed separately by Apple's privacy practices.

Exports and support

Exporting creates a file on your device. Sleep CSV exports include notes and optional health metrics only if you select them. A detector diagnostic export contains health measurements, timing, and detector results needed to investigate its behavior. Nothing is sent automatically: you choose whether to share a file and which app or recipient receives it.

Files you save or share outside Wristful Thinking are controlled by you and the receiving service or person. Deleting data in Wristful Thinking cannot delete those copies. If you email support, we receive your email address and anything you include. Send only what is needed for your request; do not include health data unless you want us to review it. Support correspondence is kept as needed to resolve and follow up on your request. You can ask us to delete it by contacting support.

Retention, deletion, and permissions

The app keeps its local records to provide your history and saved settings. Its local health database is excluded from device backups and is not synced to a developer cloud service. Temporary export files can remain in the app until the system clears them or you delete local app data.

In Settings, choose Delete local Wristful Thinking data to remove the app's cached records, notes, corrections, detector data, preferences, and temporary exports. The app also cancels its scheduled alarms and reminders and clears its saved Home scene selection. If deletion reports an error, resolve it and retry. Apple Health records remain unchanged. A disconnected Watch can retain its saved copy until the reset reaches it.

You can turn off optional health metrics or the detector in the app to remove that feature's cache. You can revoke Apple Health permissions in the Health app by opening your profile and selecting Apps → Wristful Thinking. Revoking access stops future access to those records but does not erase records already cached by Wristful Thinking; use the app's deletion controls for those. If access remains enabled, refreshing or reconnecting can import available Health records again.
