Each phone acts as both central and peripheral. Think client and server, but everyone does both. Using CBCentralManager on iOS and BluetoothManager on Android, phones discover each other and establish connections without coordination.
Phones scan for nearby devices, connect, exchange profile data through BLE characteristics (PROFILE_CHAR and PHOTO_CHAR), then disconnect. Each device goes on cooldown to give others a turn. The room becomes a mesh of constantly updating connections.
Profiles are lightweight JSON. Photos use SHA-256 hashing for deduplication - if you already have someone's photo cached, no retransfer needed. Smart MTU handling ensures reliable transmission even in crowded rooms.
Built with real-world BLE quirks in mind. Tested with multiple iOS and Android devices simultaneously, with extensive logging to handle GATT errors, queue buffers, and the subtle differences between platforms.
